I give this family so much credit for scheduling this session in the middle of moving! Their sister-in-law was sweet enough to offer her home for the shoot since they are in between houses….with a newborn and 2 year old! Not to mention it was negative degrees outside in the dead of winter, right after the holidays. I don’t know how this momma balanced it all, but she did is with great poise and calmness!
I typically photograph newborns within the first two weeks of being born, however, for the reasons stated above, this session didn’t take place until baby Dean was about 1 month old. Luckily, he was a good baby who was able to sleep sound enough for some cozy positions. He even slept right through his big brother and cousin playing trucks right next to him, not surprising for the second child!
Depending on the age of the first child, a newborn session can be challenging to capture the perfect sibling shot. Since Dean’s older brother isn’t quite old enough to really understand what I was doing there, he needed some extra bribing for some smiles. Luckily he enjoyed hearing about my magic (camera) “box,” and seeing his photo appear on the screen. By the time we finished the full family photos, he wasn’t too interested in a photo with his baby brother alone, but I managed to capture a few candid ones.
Despite the many moving parts and coordination this session required, it turned out to be fantastic. Props to this momma for working it all out and making the time to capture these unforgettable moments during such a chaotic time!
